Stories of Italy

Stories of Italy, Design and Craftsmanship
With a degree from the Polimoda Institute of Florence, Dario Buratto set up shop in Milan and started his career working for fashion brands both in couture and ready-to-wear. After a trip to Asia, he returned to the world’s Fashion and Design capital with the desire to create. After learning about Murano glass, the artist become increasingly enthusiastic about this Venetian specialty, establishing his own design studio in 2016. Ever since, Stories of Italy has been creating singular, refined objects and contemporary products of exceptional craftsmanship. In his glassblowing workshops on the Island of Murano, the designer explores centuries-old techniques, reinterpreting them with contemporary flair, imagining objects of minimalist lines bursting with color. In addition to the millennial savoir faire of glassblowing, one of the artist’s favorite techniques is known as “Macchia su Macchia” (or ‘layer upon layer’). The successive application of pigments and glass shards during the firing up stage breathes new life into the resulting patterns, shapes and colors, always generated at random, also making each piece one-of-a-kind. For diptyque, Stories of Italy regularly develops exclusive collections of photophores and vases. Opacity and transparency combine in the colorful patterns, magnified by the candle’s flame or a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
