Nivyne
Nivyne, The Magicians of Glass
Located in the Pays de la Loire region of France, Nivyne is a studio specializing in glassblowing by blowtorch. In 2008, Wilfried Allyn decided to ‘carry the torch’ of the family-run business recognized for its high-caliber savoir-faire in craftsmanship and production techniques handed down for generations. Studio-trained, he considers himself an eternal apprentice, today ceaselessly exploring the techniques to invent contemporary models. Perfectionist and passionate, the glass blower exalts the material, himself transforming into a magician, concocting captivating creations.
Nivyne has built its reputation for glassblowing borosilicate by blowtorch, a technique that’s now quite rare, and famous for its extreme temperatures of +700°C. Borosilicate is the glass laboratories prefer, thanks to its robustness and powerful resistance to high temperatures. Along with its flawless transparency and crystal-like reflections, this glass is lightweight and surprisingly easy to handle. Beautiful and practical reasons to repurpose this raw material to enchant table lovers everywhere.
For diptyque, Nivyne has imagined a collection of ribbed and twisted photophores and matching tumblers. These decorative and useful objects pay tribute to Christiane Montadre-Gautrot, one of La Maison’s three founders, who was a passionate collector of large, borosilicate jars that lined the original boutique at 34, boulevard Saint Germain, and that she would fill with seeds.
