Craftmanship

Julien Colombier is a self-taught painter from Paris, whose usage of pastels and chalk brightens black backdrops to create tropical jungles and other hypnotic designs. By collaborating  with the Inoue Brothers and One Kiln ceramic’s Yusuke Kido, he gives his work a new dimension: with his colours, Julien Colombier decorates and reimagines uniquely dark ceramic pieces, crafted according to an ancient Japanese technique involving the black ashes of the active Sakurajima volcano. Thus came to be a singular collection of plates, bowls, and vases that combine contemporary design and tradition.
