Green and white Murano glass

To cast a fresh eye on the traditional, then blend it with the modern - this is the passion that drives the creative duo behind “Stories of Italy”. Thanks to the "Macchia su Macchia" technique originally conceived in Murano, it is possible to realise shimmering objects in coloured glass. Hand-blown and hand-finished, every piece is a one-off, its colours drawn from a range created exclusively for diptyque: amber, black, red and green.

Together, designer duo Matilde Antonacci and Dario Buratto are “Stories of Italy”, a company taking a fresh look at Venice's heritage of craftsmanship to create contemporary objects. For diptyque, they have developed an exclusive collection of glasses and vases reinterpreting the glassmaking technique known as "Macchia su Macchia" (literally, "layer upon layer"). The coloured pattern is created by the successive application of pigments and shards of coloured glass, intermingling opacity and transparency. The technique also harks back to the marbles and mosaics fashionable in Ancient Italy.
